Abstract

Orientation relations between the phases of aligned Cu-Al eutectoid were studied by transmission electron diffraction. The α-phase (Cu-rich solid solution, f.c.c.) and γ-phase (Cu 2Al 4, approximately b.c.c.) were found to have the Kurdjumow-Sachs relationship. The lamellar interface was near (533) α and (431) γ. Abrupt changes in lamellar orientation were associated with twin boundaries in the α-phase, parallel to the common close-packed planes. Observations were interpreted in terms of a stepped-interface model previously outlined by Hall et al, and compared with results on various f.c.c./b.c.c. systems.
