Abstract

The haemagglutinin membrane glycoprotein of Hong Kong influenza virus forms large crystals suitable for X-ray diffraction analysis. The crystals were formed by precipitation in 80% sodium citrate of the haemagglutinin released from virus particles by digestion with bromelain. They are tetragonal P 4 1 or P 4 3 with unit-cell dimensions a = 164 A, c = 178 A.
