Abstract
AbstractThe ternary molybdenum tantalum oxide Mo2Ta2O11 was synthesized through two different experimental routes. The crystal structure was determined from X‐ray powder diffraction data. Mo2Ta2O11 crystallizes in space group R\bar{3}m (no. 166) with the lattice parameters a = 562.82(2) pm and c = 2516.2(1) pm in hexagonal setting. A so far unknown layered structure with three formula units per unit cell is observed. Corner sharing TaO6 octahedra form double layers perpendicular to [001] with MoO4 tetrahedra on each side. The tetrahedra are connected by corners to the TaO6 octahedra and are isolated from each other. The crystal structure can be described in relation to the ReO3‐type.
