Abstract

Formation of crystal mimics, macroconidia-like and perithecium-like structures, is described in cultures of dermatophytes in hair-on-soil cultures and on Sabouraud glucose agar. The way how to recognize these mimics in white and in polarized light is discussed. The abundant crystal formation and the necessity to recognize it in the “mycotheca in chlorallactophenol” is underscored.
