Abstract

We have investigated the crystal growth of TM/Au and TM/Ag (TM=Co, Cu) superlattices using the RHEED system installed in our molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) system which enables us to observe, continuously, the change of the surface in-plane lattice constant on a real-time basis. In the TM/Ag (TM=Co, Cu) superlattices, the behavior in the changes of the lattice constant was discontinuous, while in the TM/Au superlattices, that was continuous. These behaviors are discussed in terms of mixing and strain.
