Abstract

Abstract A crystal chemical study has shown that large domains of solid solutions can be isolated close to Li2O-Ta2O5-(WO3)2. Density measurements has allowed to identify a unique type of nonstoichiometry for all the solid solutions investigated. It consists of simultaneous anionic and cationic deficits. The crystal chemical results, the plots of TC versus composition and NMR data have confirmed the existence of two zones in the ternary diagramme. The frontier between these two areas is located ca. the join LiTaO3-Li2W2O7. It was also found that the TC decreases whenever the composition is removed from LiTaO3.
