Crystal and molecular structure of 2-(1,3-dioxo-1,3-dihydro-isoindol-2-yl)-3-(4-methyl-5-oxo-2,5-dihydro-furan-2-yloxy)-but-2-enoic acid methyl ester, C18H15NO7

Abstract

In our continuous efforts (Zwanenburg et al., 1986) to synthesize biologically active analogues of strigol, which is a natural stimulant for the germination of the seeds of parasitic weeds of the genera Strigol and Orobanche spp, the title compound lb was prepared by coupling acetyl N-phthaloyl glycine methyl ester and 5bromo-3-methyl-5H-furan-2-one (Mangnus and Zwanenburg, 1991). The structure of the thus-obtained product could not be assessed in an unambiguous manner and therefore this X-ray diffraction analysis was undertaken. In a preceding communication (Beurskens et al., 1993) a similar compound l a has'been reported.
