Abstract
To characterize acute cryoinjury using NIRS imaging, the left ventricular (LV) anterior wall of exposed pig hearts was brought in 2-min contact with the tip of aluminum rod (25-mm diameter) cooled in liquid nitrogen. Changes in sub-epicardial oxygen saturation (OS) of hemoglobin (Hb)+myoglobin (Mb) and water content were monitored by NIRS and visible/NIR point spectroscopy over 90-min period. Subepicardial tissue perfusion was evaluated at 60 min using first pass kinetics of intravascular optical tracer indocyanine green (ICG).
