Abstract
James F. Crow (1916–2012) is an American population geneticist known for his wide contributions to mathematical population biology, influential teaching, public service, ethical analyses, and academic leadership. Crow is also regarded as one of the founders of the field of human genetics. He wrote influential textbooks and widely cited papers applying population genetics to evolution, radiation risk assessments, and human diversity. Most of his academic life was been spent at the University of Wisconsin where he was an influential academic leader and mentor to several generations of geneticists.
