Abstract

AbstractThis chapter discusses two case studies carried out by a team of experts in the southern and northern part of Ethiopia demonstrating important cross-sectoral planning and capacity-building issues in forest management. The purpose of the Adaba-Dodola Integrated Forest Management project was to promote and support participatory forest management through community empowerment. The case study on the assessment of community-managed forest sites focused on how the responsibility of forest management had progressed and how benefits were shared among members of communities. Their results should help both the government and the donor community to identify relevant policy instruments and institutional arrangements, with a view to enhancing policy coordination and harmonization.
