Abstract

This study focuses on the analysis of two nonfiction books: Lá fora (Outside), published in 2014 by Planeta Tangerina in Portugal, and Lá no meu quintal (There in My Backyard), published in 2019 by Peirópolis in Brazil. By comparing these two innovative nonfiction books, both concerning the promotion of a more intense relationship between children and nature, the analysis underlines the influence of the picturebook format not only in the creation of a close synergy between text and illustrations, but also on book design. The relevance of the illustration in order to convey information is also strengthened by other visual and graphic elements, creating a hybrid and multimodal format that attracts readers' attention and interest.
