Abstract

This paper presents effective cooperation of end-to-end routing and dynamic local path control for achieving superior performance in multi-hop wireless network under fading environment. As an on-demand routing protocol, Threshold-Controlled Ad Hoc On-demand Distance Vector (TCAODV) is employed, which can adjust the average link distance of a created route. By optimizing the distance so that the local path control by the dynamic multi-hop shortcut (DMHS) scheme effectively works, end-to-end packet delivery rate can be remarkably improved while preventing the increase of multi-hop delay due to the shorter hop distance. The performances are analyzed by deriving the probability distribution of the routes created by TCAODV. It is confirmed by both theoretical calculations and network simulations that DMHS with TCAODV can remarkably improve the transmission performances in terms of end-to-end Packet Delivery Rate (PDR) and keep delay in hop count almost same as that by conventional AODV.
