Abstract

Croatia, as a country in transition, which has been developing the facilities for mass tourism for decades, might become one of the European models of modernization of community development if its middle and long term plans and policy emphasise the development of tourism as one of the key economic and community development sectors, with the main task of the permanent preservation of its natural and cultural resources. The author proposes the following to be included in the development plans and policies: the classification of natural resources, the development of tourism on the islands and the development of city tourism.
