Abstract

AbstractExperimental evidence for the existence of a critical thickness de in a hybrid nematic cell is presented. This is a new experiment which enables good precision on dc and the anchoring energy parameter W. It consists in varying continuously the sample thickness with a resolution of about 0. 1 μm by means of a piezoelectric driver. The influence of the flexoelectric effect on the elastic properties of the hybrid nematic sample is considered
