Abstract

The authors present a detailed investigation of the AC field amplitude dependence of the initial complex susceptibility of YBaCuO compounds with various morphologies (bulk, thin film, single crystal) and BiSrCaCuO bulk compounds. They discuss the results together with published data in the critical dynamic field (hc*) model. hc* is a measure of the magnetic field above which vortices are unpinned giving rise to energy losses. The highest hc* are observed in YBaCuO single crystals. A comparison between YBaCuO and BiSrCaCuO polycrystals shows a better quality for the former. The magnetic transitions in YBaCuO compounds also show high sensitivity to grain size.
