Abstract

The magnetic behavior and phase diagrams of a mixed spin-5/2 and spin-3/2 Ising system on a two-dimensional square–octagon lattice were investigated using the mean-field approach based on the statistical Bogoliubov inequality. Two ground-state phase diagrams were plotted in two different planes. We also examined the effects of exchange interactions, crystal field, and external magnetic field on the magnetizations and phase diagrams of the system. First- and second-order phase transitions and isolated critical points were obtained for certain physical conditions. The influence of various physical system parameters on the blocking temperature was also clarified.
