Abstract
Three criteria for judging representations of shape are proposed. The criteria are illustrated for the Generalized Cylinder representation of three-dimensional volumes and the Smoothed Local Symmetries representation of planar shapes. A representation for the shape of surfaces is proposed, called Curvature Patches. It is used to extend Smoothed Local Symmetries to a novel three-dimensional representation.
