Abstract
The purpose of the work is to evaluate the significant of the technological efficiency criterion for choosing the diameter of the rolls and to develop recommendations for the designation of the diameters of the rolls of bar mills. From the analysis of data on roll diameters and rolling technological parameters of existing bar mills, it was established that the main criteria for choosing the roll diameter are bite conditions, strength and wear resistance. It is proposed to supplement this list with a technological efficiency criterion, which is defined as the ratio of elongation and spreading coefficients. The value of the ratio of the diameters of the rolls to the initial rolling thickness is recommended for the preliminary assignment of the diameters of the rolls by groups of stands of bar mills.
