Abstract
Subject. This article examines the issues of assessing the economic efficiency of payment systems, namely, the economic relations between the operators of payment systems, their participants, users of payment services, as well as regulators and organizations that ensure the functioning of the payment infrastructure. Objectives. The article aims to analyze the approaches to assessing the efficiency of payment systems reflected in the scientific literature, identify the most important criteria for such an assessment, and formulate basic recommendations for improving evaluation procedures. Methods. For the study, I used theoretical research methods. Results. Based on the results of the study, the article offers recommendations for improving the assessment procedures regarding the efficiency of the payment system functioning. Relevance. The proposed methodology can help conduct a better and more complete assessment of the efficiency of payment systems, identify the most significant problems, outline ways to solve them, and develop long-term and short-term plans for the development of payment systems. The results of the study can be used in the practical activities of specialists managing the functioning of payment systems and their separate elements, and assessing the efficiency of payment systems.
