Abstract
In this work, the influence of chemical composition and thermal treatment on the crystallization of bioglasses of the 31SiO2-11P2O5- (58-X) CaO -X MgO system was studied. (X=0, 2, 7, 16 and 32). The heat treatment was carried out at 900, 1000, 1100 and 1200°C for a period of one hour. After this process, the samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and differential thermal analysis finding that increasing the MgO content inhibits the formation of the Hydroxyapatite crystalline phase and promotes the formation of the Whitlockite crystalline phase.
