Abstract

This article is a response to the concerns of an anonymous reviewer who took issue with findings presented in an earlier article entitled “Publishing Among African American Criminologists: A Devaluing Experience?” Despite the reviewer's criticism of the methods and findings, the facts remain—based on the evidence—that the scholarship of African American Criminologists is largely neglected and that opportunities to publish (in most mainstream criminal justice journals) is not equal. Simply stated, when it comes to publishing, the playing field is not level. While some readers might regard these findings as a matter of perception—in this stance, perception is reality.
