Abstract

We have made enormous technological and policy strides toward inclusive educational practices during the novel COVID-19 pandemic within the US; why have we rejected them despite the improved accessibility for students? As educators, we have the power to construct educational environments that meet the evolving needs of our students. To match the evolving needs of our students, educators must intentionally craft environments that facilitate learning for the populations who need it. This commentary paper outlines several recommendations to encourage educational equity for the evolving student population that are within the power of educators. Educators can encourage equitable classroom environments that provide educational opportunities to vulnerable and underserved students by adapting several key components of the adaptations made during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, namely flexible course modality, hybrid student support, and virtual opportunities for student engagement.
