Abstract

A supportive environment is one of the key factors that contribute to an effective learning process. This study aims to determine the factors that help build a supportive learning environment in order to keep the student engaged in academic and other activities of the institute/university. The paper reviews various criteria that help in the creation of such an environment for students. Based on the readings, the author has developed a framework encompassing the main elements of a supportive learning environment. A questionnaire was administered to students from six institutes. It was found that instructional, peer, institutional, and technical support play a key role in the creation of a supportive environment for the student. The results of this study can be used by educationists and management committees of universities/institutes to provide an effective learning environment for the students.
