Abstract

Creatine phosphokinase enzyme was assayed at delivery in maternal, cord blood and placenta of thirty pregnant women of whom 10 were normal pregnant women, 10 patients suffering from mild preeclampsia and 10 severe preeclamptic patients. The results indicated that the placental CPK activity was normally high and markedly increased in preeclamptic patients as compared to normal pregnancy and the enzyme activity in cord blood was nearly double that in the normal maternal blood and significantly increased in both maternal and cord blood in mild and severe preeclamptic patients.
