Abstract

Cranio-mandibular osteopathy is an idiopathic cranian hyperostosis condition, self-limiting, affecting young growing canines up to one year of age. This condition is characterized by the production of new bone, with an irregular appearance and symmetrical distribution, usually affecting the mandible, possibly extending to the temporomandibular joint and/‌or tympanic bulla. The clinical presentation and imaging findings are variable, depending on the bones involved and the severity of the new bone production. The information regarding the breed and age of the patient, in conjunction with imaging aspects regarding the appearance and location of cranian hyperostosis, are sufficient data to establish the diagnosis. The prognosis depends on the bones involved and the severity of new bone production, and the treatment aims at reducing prehension and mastication disorders caused by the development of hyperostosis, as well as ensuring the patient’s nutritional support.
