Abstract
A CPW-fed compact planar spiral antenna is presented. Different sections of the spiral monopole can excite multi resonant modes which makes the antenna suitable for multiband applications. The spiral is designed for dual band operation in GSM 1800 and UWB band. By using shorting strips between the arms of the spiral monopole, the frequency of the first operating band is lowered to WMTS band without change in overall antenna size. The antenna prototype is fabricated and tested. Simulated and measured readings are in good agreement. Radiation patterns are stable in all the intended bands of operation and group delay is nearly constant in the UWB range.
