Abstract

The functional organics including antibiotics have been widespreadly used for protecting human body against the proliferation of bacteria. But their excessive abuse led to environmental pollution. Therefore, it is still a challenge to explore the novel multifunctional materials. In this paper, using nanowires of hydroxyapatite (nWHA) with the excellent cation exchange capacity as carriers, a kind of cobalt based zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (CoZIFs) was conjugated to nWHA by in-situ precipitation, and the adsorption and antibacterial performance of the obtained CoZIFs@nWHA was investigated. It indicated excellent adsorption activity for removing typical organics, tetracycline (TC) and dyes, which the removal rates got to 80 % within 5 min, and 95.1 % within 60 min, respectively. It was also found that the adsorption efficiency of CoZIFs@nWHA against TC was still exceeded 78.2 % after recycling 6 times. In addition, the obtained CoZIFs@nWHA presented excellent antibacterial activity, which the inhibitory rates against S. aureus and E. coli were 92.4 % and 95.8 %, respectively. The reason is that Ca (II)–OH+ and Co(II)–OH+ in the heterojunction surface of CoZIFs@nWHA, while bacteria have negative membrane potential and electron transport chain. In summary, CoZIFs@nWHA, a new multifunctional material for removing organics and antibacterial activity with good recycling practicability, has broad application prospects in water treatment.
