Abstract

Decomposition of methane was performed on Fe(Co,Ni)/Al2O3 catalysts to obtain COX-free hydrogen and carbon nanofibers. The stepwise heating experiment shows that the activity order for Fe/Al2O3, Co/Al2O3 and Ni/Al2O3 is a reverse of that of their melting points and is also a reverse of that of the initial temperatures for the deactivation. Doping of Cu improves the stability and activity of Ni/Al2O3 effectively at high temperatures, but the effect is not observable on Co/Al2O3. The obtained result is discussed in this paper.
