Abstract

Abstract ‘Dixilee’ southern peas were planted in single-row plots 15 ft long on May 22. Treatments were replicated 4 times in a randomized complete block design with 5 ft alleys between replications. Treflan (at 0.5 lbs ai/acre) was incorporated preplant for weed control. Treatments were applied weekly on Jun 6, 13,20,27, Jul 3, 11, 18, and 25 for a total of 8 applications. All applications were made at a rate equivalent to 100 gallons of water at 40 psi using a piston pump sprayer with a single hollow cone nozzle. A single harvest was made on Jul 31 and the percentage of pods with stings and the number of stings per 10 pods were determined. At the same time, all leafminers on 10 leaves were counted for each treatment. Irrigation was used to supplement natural rainfall such that approximately 1 in of water was applied weekly.
