Abstract

Molecular recognition through conformational preorganization is discussed in the Full Paper on page 7987 ff. by O. Q. Munro et al. The global minimum conformation of a bis(pyrrole) Schiff base derivative exhibits C2 symmetry and a highly nonplanar conformation that is preorganized for self‐assembly into a tight hydrogen‐bonded dimer with exact D2 symmetry. The solution‐phase structure of the dimer, which predominates at higher concentrations (narrow pyrrole NH resonance), matches the X‐ray structure. The monomers within the dimer are electronically mixed.
