Magpie Geese (Anseranas semipalmata) are taxonomically distinct waterbirds widely distributed throughout northern Australia and southern New Guinea. In Australia, the species has a high conservation value given its importance as a cultural icon and food resource, particularly for local Traditional Owners. Geese disperse opportunistically across coastal floodplains throughout the year, and commonly utilise mixed natural-agricultural landscapes during the pre-monsoonal seasonal bottleneck of natural resources for geese (pp. 2756–2766).
