Wood-Adams and colleagues investigate the electrospinning of liquid-liquid phase separated PLA-dichloromethane (DCM)-hexane systems with no post treatment. The viscoelasticity of the systems changes throughout the phase separation. Thus, by controlling the combination of constituents and aging time, porous spherical micro beads or fibers via electrospraying and electrospinning, respectively can be fabricated. The image shows porous PLA microbeads produced using electrospraying of a liquid-liquid phase separated composition selected from the ternary PLA-DCMhexane system.
