Abstract

The Cover Feature highlights how the presence of a rhodium and a germanium center is important to accomplish the catalytic semi-hydrogenation of alkynes towards trans-olefins. In their Research Article, J. Campos and co-workers investigate the aforesaid selective transformation using a rhodium/germyl system, revealing that the complex containing germanium is the only one that selectively produces the less common trans-isomer. This selectivity was further improved by using a one-pot/two-step procedure in combination with a heterogenous catalyst. Kinetic studies provide a mechanistic picture for the whole hydrogenation/isomerization process. More information can be found in the Research Article by J. Campos and co-workers.
