Abstract
C2v-symmetric hexaphenylbenzene (HPB) derivatives with three kinds of different substituents on the periphery of HPB coloured in red, blue, and yellow in the Cover Feature can be selectively synthesized by combining several types of building blocks. This type of C2v-symmetric HPB derivatives were synthesized using inexpensive reagents on gram scale. All the reactions were carried out at room temperature or by heating, and most materials along the synthetic route could be isolated without chromatographic purification. This method enables the preparation of novel HPB-based materials for a variety of purposes.
