Abstract

The Green-Schwartz type II superstring theory is quantized in a Lorentz covvariant gauge with a manifest generalized space-time supersymmetry. The difference in the quantization procedure comparatively to heterotic string is related to the existence of bosonic λ-symmetry, which is not independent of κ-symmetry. The gauge fixed action corresponds to a free conformal theory with a correct counting of degrees of freedom and vanishing conformal anomaly.
