Abstract
The Green-Schwarz action for the heterotic string is quantized in a super-Poincaré covariant gauge. The gauge-fixed action is completely quadratic and corresponds to a free conformal theory. The theory has a correct counting of degrees of freedom. The conformal anomaly vanishes.
