Abstract
Abstract Coupling characteristics of 4 × 4 elliptical core optical waveguide couplers that consist of four highly elliptical core fibers, whose centers form a rectangle, are obtained. The effect of the aspect ratio of the individual elliptical core fibers as well as that of their rectangular arrangement on the coupling characteristics have been obtained. It is shown that the state of polarization of the input signal through such a coupler is maintained.
