Abstract

In the past, the development of mathematical models for ground water flow was mainly concentrated on large-scale models, calculated by means of the Finite Element Method (FEM) (1 region). However, this method is not appropriate for simulating the hydraulic properties of flow in a region near a groundwater supply and recharge system (GWS/RS) (2 -order region). In this work, the singularities of the groundwater flow around GWS/RS are calculated with the Analytical Element Method (AEM). The boundary of the near 2^ -order region is calculated with the Boundary Element Method (BEM). Thus, through the coupling of AEM/BEM with a large-scale FEM model, allows to govern the complete flow system can be taken into consideration. Examples with measured and calculated results for wells with laterals and partially penetrating recharge boreholes filled with gravel are provided below to test the proposed model.
