Abstract

Coupled bunch instability is one of the current limiting factor of the storage ring in multi‐bunch operation. This instability occurs when the higher order mode (HOM) frequency of the cavity happens to be near the multiple of the revolution frequency. In designing the SPring‐8 rf acceleration system, special care is taken to reduce the effect. Cavity shape is optimized in reducing the HOM impedances, and the cures against coupled bunch instabilities are introduced and explained.
