Abstract
Using questionnaire data, couples with high, moderate and low marital adjustmentwere compared with regard to the types of behaviour change each spouse wanted from the other. While there was no significant discriminant function when husbands were rating wives, when wives were rating husbands there was a group of behaviours which discriminated between the three groups of wives. Low marital adjustment wives wanted their husbands to express their emotions more clearly, give them more attention and appreciation, and to converse with them more. These findings emphasise the importance of communication to marital adjustment.
