Abstract

This chapter presents the monograph of Spain. Spain occupies the entire Iberian peninsula in Western Europe, except for Portugal. It is separated from France by the Pyrenees. The interior is a high arid plateau traversed E and W mountain ranges. The Balearic Islands in the Western Mediterranean 1,935 sq. ml, are a province of Spain. The Canary Islands, 2,807 sq. ml, in the Atlantic W at Morocco, are also provinces. Ceuta and Melilla, in Africa opposite Gibraltar, are a part of Metropolitan Spain. The climatic data are compiled and published for their later diffusion by the National Meteorological Institute (instituto Nacional de Meteorologie or I.N.M). The I.N.M. is formed by the Central Office in Madrid and Regional Centers distributed along the Hydraulic River Basins of the Country. Several computer programs are developed for solar energy systems by the organizations (INI, CSIC, CEE, INTA) and individuals active in solar energy in Spain.
