Abstract

The paper is a part of a study conducted by the researcher on the possibility of utilizing communication as the central resource to improve the abilities of rural middle school students by making them more alert, aware and receptive. This paper is based on the observations made during preliminary field visits to middle schools in five different districts of Eastern Uttar Pradesh. The observations shed light on the actual functioning of rural middle schools, the available resources, teachers and status of students. Drawing conclusions from the visits, the paper identifies those aspects of rural education which could be improved with effective communication interventions.
