Abstract
Abstract The cerebral cortex functions in a wide variety of simple and complex activities. It is made up of layers of neuronal cell bodies, hence the term gray matter. These layers of cell bodies are then organized into gyri (convolutions). The cortex can be divided into functional components in several different ways. Various schemes exist and may be based on function, cytoarchitecture, topography, or Brodmann areas.
