Abstract
This study aims to reflect on how education can act as an important preventive instrument against the problem of corruption, which is one of the most serious obstacles to the achievement of the strategic objectives of the Federative Republic of Brazil and, consequently, to human rights. Thus, we initially sought to position public corruption as an illicit act of a diffuse nature, an understanding that is necessary to have an accurate notion of the gravity of the problem. Subsequently, it was necessary to make a brief incursion into the harmful effects of corruption, effects that always need to be remembered to reveal how harmful corruption is to the protection and realization of human rights, seriously compromising democratic promises. Finally, we sought to highlight how educational deficits end up being a decisive factor in the proliferation of corruption, thus requiring an understanding of the important role of education as an instrument of citizen empowerment and as an antidote to corruption.
