Abstract

SummaryEight grades of ABS and four grades of polypropylene were plated with various nickel + chromium coatings and subjected to thermal cycling and corrosion tests. Peel adhesion was determined on samples plated with copper coatings. The influence of the grade of plastics, processing sequence and coating type on behaviour in the above tests is reported. Statistical analysis of the results has shown the relative importance of these variables. Four grades of ABS and two grades of polypropylene have been selected as being the most suitable materials for electroplating but overall the most satisfactory grades of polypropylene were superior to the best grades of ABS.
