Abstract

The corrosion resistance of 5005 aluminum alloy was improved by anodizing treatment in a mixture electrolyte of phosphoric acid and boric acid. The influence of anodizing parameters on the corrosion resistance of the studied alloy has been investigated. For example, the effect of the concentration of phosphoric acid, concentration of boric acid, voltage and time of anodization. In this work, potentiodynamic polarization curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were used to study the corrosion behavior of the aluminum alloy. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) method was used to study the surface of the aluminum alloy before and after anodization. The obtained results show that the anodizing treatment of 5005 aluminum alloy in phosphoric-boric acids provides better corrosion resistance in comparison with the anodizing treatment in phosphoric acid.
