Abstract

The mechanism and formation conditions of conversion coatings (CC) obtained by treatment of rusted steel surfaces with tannin-based rust converters are considered. The prospects of increasing their durability and protective properties with small amounts of inhibiting additives are shown. Conversion coatings are well compatible with the majority of paint coatings and can be used as an independent means for temporary corrosion protection.
