Abstract

On the basis of potentiokinetic and weight-loss tests the corrosion resistance of Co 5Sm magnets in acid and neutral sulphate solutions ( C SO 2- 4 =0.5 M) has been investigated. It was found that the corrosion rate of Co 5Sm is over 30 times greater than for pure Co, in strong acid solution (pH=0.3), where the reaction takes place in the active range. In neutral solution (pH=7) when the corrosion process is controlled by diffusion, the corrosion rate of Co 5Sm and Co under similar transport conditions is comparable.
