Abstract

Abstract In this paper a torque equation for the two phase drag cup servomotor is derived. This equation is based on electromagnetic field theory. Maxwell's equations in the quasi-stationary state and in cylinderical coordinates are used to solve the boundary value problem in the air gap of the two phase servomotor, Calculation of the current density distribution in the rotor material helps to determine the value of the rotor copper loss and hence the torque. The equivalent circuit model already adopted in some references [1] may be applied to the motor to calculate the torque speed characteristics under balanced conditions using the symmetrical component theory. However, an experimental verification was necessary for this study to judge the validity of the theoretical results.
