Correlations of EPPS personality traits and intramural participation.

Abstract

Studies !1, 2: 3, 6 ) indicate there is a relationship becween personality traits and participation In actlvlty. However, there are only a few studies which compare intramural participation and personality traits (7, 8 ) . To compare selected personality traits and intramural participation of college male freshmen the Edwards Personal Preference Schedule ( 4 ) , designed to describe the personality by ascertaining the needs shown in Table 1, was administered to 950 male freshmen enrolled in the Texas A & M University's Physical Education concepts course. S's intramural participation score was determined by the number of times he participated in an activity. Each activity consisted of four round-robin games; thus, it was possible for S to score four points in each activity and achieve a possible total score of 48 for the 12 activities (handball, horseshoes, bowling, flag football, basketball, volleyball, etc.).
